CORNING HOSPITAL/FOUNDERS PAVILION BOARD PRESIDENT STEPHEN ALBERTALLI APPOINTED TO AMERICAN HOSPITAL ASSOCIATION'S COMMITTEE ON GOVERNANCE:

LOCAL HEALTH CARE INTERESTS TO EXPERIENCE IMPROVED REPRESENTATION IN NATIONAL POLICY DEVELOPMENT PROCESS

Local health care providers and their patients have a new -- but familiar -- voice representing them at a national level. Stephen Albertalli, board president of Corning Hospital/Founders Pavilion, has been appointed to the American Hospital Association's Committee on Governance. He now serves as the Region 2 Trustee Chair, representing New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

The AHA is the leading association representing the nation's hospitals and health systems. Its Committee on Governance is a key group of national hospital and health system trustee leaders who are responsible for the oversight of AHA's trustee programs and initiatives in the areas of policy, advocacy, education and community leadership. The committee on governance is one of several advisory committees to the AHA whose members work to support national grassroots advocacy campaigns and spearhead educational activities to encourage governance excellence in health care organizations. The committee includes nine regional trustee chairs who serve as liaison leaders with trustees in their regions.

Albertalli, therefore, will bring his knowledge of and experience in the Southern Tier to that group and aid it in developing rules and regulations that will affect hospitals and health systems nationwide.

"My job is to provide the perspective of a small community hospital and to provide an understanding of the problems they face in health care and in reimbursement," Albertalli said. "I am honored to have been selected and look forward to serving the people of this region."

"Steve's progressive vision for health care will make him an excellent addition to the AHA's committee on governance," said Corning Hospital/Founders Pavilion President and CEO Timothy Dentry. "He has been a superb leader on a local level. His participation in the development of AHA policy should make Southern Tier residents confident that their needs and the needs of facilities like Corning Hospital/Founders Pavilion will be voiced to those who need to hear them most."

Albertalli has been on the Corning Hospital/Founders Pavilion board of directors for 17 years and has served as president since 1987. His 44-year career with Corning Inc. ended when he retired as Vice President and Director of Investor Relations. He received his undergraduate degree from Rutgers University and completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.

The AHA is a not-for-profit association of health care provider organizations and individuals that are committed to the health improvement of their communities. The AHA is the national advocate for its members, a list which includes 5,000 hospitals, health care systems, networks, other providers of care and 37,000 individual members. Founded in 1898, the AHA provides education for health care leaders and is a source of information on health care issues and trends. For more information, visit the AHA Web site at www.aha.org.
